Is Nintendo Even Needed Today?

There's no doubt about it. Nintendo was one of the most influential game companies and is extremely popular. However, today, children are moving up to more mature games, and Nintendo is only recognized around console releases. Are they still needed? Should they stop consoles? Should they become a third-party developer?
