That is both a cheap an horrible way of doing shadow to create depth. If you look at games, comics, manga etc, you'll notice that when colors are concerned in terms of shadow, they don't use pure black color. They use a darker shade of the base color that is just as pure in black and white as the original. That way it looks more natural, unlike the result here. Also, for a design that uses flames, why the hell are you use "sparkles" and not recreating the effect of embers that flame usually lets out!?
