why do people hack?

I wanted to be a programmer/hacker, so I made my own aimbot as a challenge to myself. It ruined COD for me and I ended up getting banned. But I learned alot about game engines and code and stuff, so it was worth it. If people hack on a regular basis on all there games, or all the time on a specific game, I think they are scumbags and need to do something else with their time.
