has anyone here ever created a mod?

Does anyone know to update a mod? The witchery mod is struck at 1.7.10, I need it to be at latest 1.12.2 version. I do not own the mod, I tried few things and messed it up. Too bad all great mods are struck like this. Has anyone played witchery mod??
