#14 I hope this doesn't turn into an essay, but the issue with DarkRP servers is that most of them are created on the basis of gaining power. When someone plays another DarkRP server and is treated as though they are below the staff team, this fuels them to gain power to rise up upon those who opposed him/her - creating their own server where they are 'boss'.
These sort of people, unfortunately, are definitely not the type that you'd want for a staff team; they are often imperative, harsh, and power-hungry. This concoction amounts to a poorly run, crap DarkRP where the admins do as they please, and the players come last rather than first like they should.
Alongside this comes copying popular servers, some of which are only popular due to spoofing the player count rather than actually being of a decent quality; this results in the same poor quality being regurgitated over and over.
There is a lack of good examples that can be set due to this, and therefore DarkRP can barely progress, and as to the fact that players don't seem to come first, servers can hardly satisfy players' needs. Do they care? Hardly.
Another fact as someone has mentioned, are donator and VIP features. What most servers fail to understand is that these must not restrict gameplay and give unfair advantages over other players - especially when the price is not proportional to the privilege provided. VIPs/ donators should certainly not get any special treatment when it comes to the server rules - in OOC all players should be considered equal. Most importantly the community comes first before money. The whole purpose of money is to make the community less restricted financially to what it can provide its players. It's not donating otherwise; perks are awards not rewards. Moreover, administration is a role/ job rather than a gateway to spawning in shit as you please, staff should see themselves as equals to every other player, yet they have the tools [ULX] to help when a troublemaker arises.
Server economy is crucial to a successful DarkRP, and donating for absurd amounts of money is what ruins most server economies. Cash inflow and outflow should be relatively equal - people should be walking around with 10 million with nothing to spend it on; equally servers mustn't make it too hard to earn money as people will get overwhelmed with the effort required and play elsewhere. Methods of income should be based upon the effort and the investment needed. Mining for example should earn more than printing because it requires more effort - of course this would have to be relative to the amount invested.
I could carry on but I'm not sure what the maximum amount of characters is.
