Why do people invest so much?

That's the keyword right there. If you're investing with that mindset without doing any proper research, going by other people's words, and with expectation to make crazy profit in a short amount of time, then investing in crypto currencies isn't for you.
To answer your question, "Why do people invest so much?": The answer is, I invest because I know how to make money and I make good money from crypto currencies. I go with the mindset that there's always a possibility of losing everything I've got so short term deficits don't bother me much.
