What is your opinion on the discovered Meltdown Spectre Vulnerability?

What are your thoughts about this major issue? I putting out hotfixes that decreases the performance of every CPU about 20 - 30%. My point of view that seems sketchy, i think it's a thing they knew about and took the risk to get maximum performance out oftheir products.

For those of you not aware of Spectre and Meltdown, they are a series of serious chip vulnerabilities that affect many modern chips including Intel and its competitors. They could allow hackers to access the chip kernel, the area that is supposed to protect the most sensitive information like passwords and encryption keys.

What is your opinion on the discovered Meltdown Spectre Vulnerability?
