RE: Anime Contest & Giveaway (Upgrades and Anime Group Spots)
Alright so since I have recently gotten into anime I want to review my favorite one so far. That being Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo
This anime follows the story of Sorata. A teenager who is confused about his life and doesn't know what he wants. He ended up getting banned from living in his schools student dorms for bringing pets in, and is forced to live in the complex known as Sakurasou. A cheap, worn down apartment, where all the troubled kids go. There he meets a group of unique individuals. There's Misaki, the famous anime artist who is addicted to having sex, but is also in love with her best friend. There is Jin, the typical player who goes and clubs all night, but is actually in love with Misaki, Akasaka who is a talented, shut in programmer, who barely goes to school. And the owner of Sakurasou, Chichiro. There are also some side characters who become more important later on. Like the beginning love interest, Aoyama. And Rita, an artist from Europe.
The first episode starts with Sorata confused and living his life, not knowing what he wants and feeling trapped. His goal is to leave Sakurasou, since he doesn't feel he belongs in this group of misfits. But then Chichiro asks him to pick up a girl from the airport and bring her to Sakurasou. Mashiro Shiina. At first she seems like the perfect woman. But then it actually turns out that she is literally incapable of taking care of herself. Not even getting dressed if Sorata doesn't do it for her.
The relationship between Shiina and Sorata is the main plot in this show. Throughout the 24 episodes their bond grows, and weakens. There's also some sub plots like Misaki wanting to be with Jin, but Jin doesn't think he is good enough for her yet, Aoyama trying to keep her 4 jobs while trying to also become a voice actor, and the love story between Rita and Akasaka, which Akasaka wants nothing to do with.
First I have to say that I love the art. The character designs are wonderful and it really allows for the characters to look and sound expressive. Every character is unique, having their own personal issues and challenges to overcome throughout. Each person turns from this one dimentional, "I want this" character, to growing into someone who feels real. For example, Sorata and the watcher believes that Jin has it all figured out, and he is the coolest guy ever. Yet midway through, his character becomes extremely fleshed out and ends up becoming one of the characters that you will pity.
The writing is amazing. The writers know exactly how to get the watcher to convey a specific emotion. There are entire episodes that looked like so much fun to make with the varying art styles and changes in direction they go. In one episode they transition from realistic art, to an insane epileptic sequence, to puppets in a 5 minutes. It adds to the humor the show tries to convey. Yet I still ended up getting feels at certain points due to how attached you will grow to these characters.
I love this anime. Like actually it was such an experience watching it.
