I think it's a good idea with bad practice.
People should definitely smarten up online to stop themselves from getting scammed (tsk tsk) or getting hacked some other way. I help my junkie or dealer friends stay secure almost every other day though, so it's not a huge deal in my friend group anyhow.
On the other hand, it's horribly practiced by everyone who isn't an actual security professional (or extremely interested hobbyist, like me.) People read one or two articles they found on Google News that have been dumbed down into layman terms, and immediately assume they know everything about cybersec. "Yeah dude, I know what a deepweb hack is B) " Sometimes I just want to punch these people.
I don't like the whole "pushing CS into schools" thing either. It's over-funded, these kids likely will never learn anything beyond it or pursue it as even a hubby, so that's not good. But that's a discussion for another time.
