You don't need one, but generally on forums people associate profile customization with personality. Without that we're just reading text and it's kinda hard to feel anything positive towards that.


Also I negged you because you thought there was upgraded member elitism going on. I'll have you know that I tolerate absolutely none of that, upgraded or not I expect all users to treat others and be treated the same regardless of upgraded status.
