is it advisable to buy bitcoins?

I see advisories all over cautioning people against crypto currencies. Here is one in the Financial Times:

I've also heard that there has been a major correction. How safe is it really? Like how can someone recommend to another person to buy it when major financial institutions and investment firms are cautioning against it?
