- Try switching to e-cigarettes first; it's a fairly easy transition, not nearly as bad for your health, and I personally found it a lot easier to ween myself off e-cigs than regular cigs
- Try to avoid binge-drinking and triggers which make you want a smoke... not to worry if you don't know your triggers, you'll find out quickly
- After you've been quit for a bit (days/weeks/months/longer), DO NOT fall into the trap of allowing yourself to have "just one cigarette"..
- Read "Allen Carr's Easy Way To Stop Smoking"... it really helps with motivation and perspective. PDF Download (direct link): Allen_Carr's_Easy_Way_To_Stop_Smoking.pdf[111 pages]

The single best piece of advice I can offer is to keep at it... even if the first few attempts are unsuccessful, the experience you gaincanmake the difference on the next attempt.

Good luck!

So much this, having that one extra cigarette really screws you. Honestly, going straight from the stick to the alternative may be too jarring. I recommend a "lighter" cigarette. So for example not Marlboro Reds and instead smoke Golds. And move down the amount of nicotine intake you have. I used to dip and smoke but used smokey mountain and dipping less to ween off the stuff. Now I'm at the "smoking lighter" and less often approach till eventually you move to gum.

Its a long road. And its a hard one. And remember, just because you relapse doesnt mean you fail. Just get back on the horse and keep quitting.
