I love games that are Boots on The Ground, because they're more realistic, and something that people can better relate to.
When games start going far off into the future, they start to lose the connection that can really make us thing as if we were them, and because of that we start losing the immersion, or at least that's how I see it.
I like games that are either based on the past, or what could have happened.
Although, there's not a lot of games that are based off what could have happened (The only one I can think of is Wolfenstein, where the Nazi's won)... Probably for some good reason but IMO there should be more of those kinds of games. (not saying it as I WANT MORE GAMES WHERE I CAN SHOOT NAZIS, I'm just saying it'd be cool if there were alternate history games based off similar things).
