How to get better at fortnite

I know fortnite is a overrated game and a knock off of pubg and h1z1 but i personally think fortnite is harder to get used to. Ive been playing fortnite for 6 months now and im still trash at building,fighting,and overall everything. Yeah i dont play alot and mostly play pubg , but i still think for playing for 6 months and only getting 12 wins is prettybad. How do you get good?
