Windows is the best thing out there because it's the most widespread OS. If you're looking at doing just about anything then it's the best.
For security, Linux is a good choice, but no OS is completely safe.
If you're looking into giving up a lot of compatibility and things for a "good-looking" OS, then look into OSX.
