This has been perhaps been the biggest criticism of movies that have shown up during the summer months. There seems to be an unwritten rule for moviemakers to make the biggest, most bombastic action movie that chokes every ounce of life out of CGI and breaks the bank with stuntmen salaries.
But is this such a bad thing? Think about it. Why do we go to the movies? Are we trying to have serious philosophical debates about humanity or understand how exactly the concept of divinity plays a role in our lives from birth to death? No. We go to the movies to have fun. We want the big explosions. We look forward to the killer car chases & crazy stunt work because we don't have to think about it so much. Consider your original love for summer vacations when you were in school. It meant that for a few months, you spent more time thinking about what cereal you wanted to eat rather than algebra. Summer movies are about having a good time.
As such, here are seven new movie releases that are sure to make Summer 2018 a blast:
Avengers: Infinity War - The whole gang comes together to battle their greatest foe, Thanos, with the fate of existence itself on the line.
Solo: A Star Wars Story - How did Han Solo meet Chewbacca and get involved with Lando Calrissian? This is the story you've been waiting for.
Deadpool 2 - America's favorite foul-mouthed "hero" is back to battle a new force the likes of which he's never faced.
Ocean's 8 - A group of eight female criminal masterminds form a team to pull-off a "crime of the century" heist.
Hereditary - A horror movie that has earned acclaim as the most terrifying movie in years, a unique take on how a family moves on from the death of a matriarch.
Incredibles 2 - A sequel a decade & a half in the making, our superhero family tries to balance fighting evil with a home life & even some interesting home dynamics.
Ant-Man and the Wasp - Superheroes have to balance their personal lives with the responsibility they hold as powerful beings. Notice a trend?
New movie releases are always something to get pumped for because you know that even if there is a not-so-great one in the mix, you're sure to get plenty of entertainment. We get it. We know that there are a lot of you that really dig the idea of watching a movie that digs deep into a particular topic & gets you thinking. Life, however, is so full of moments where the heaviness of living can really get you down that sometimes you need to see someone detonate a bomb over the Atlantic Ocean with a motorcycle while a yacht waits for them below.
