As some others have said and voted, I went with 1.7 (1.7.10) because of the largest number of mods available for this version.


I've been playing modded since 1.2.5, and since that point with most of the mods that Direwolf20 has been using in his single player series. I've played a bit with the Magic Launcher and Tekkit, but as of 1.4.7 and later I have used the FTB Launcher, which I have found the easiest to customize which mods to play with.


I do still have my old vanilla worlds, but these have a few mods in them as well, such as Single Player Commands, WMLL, Optifine, and EnchantView.
