Why is CSGO so much about comp?

I've seen many CSGO streamers and pro players still playing this game that is way out of its generation, it seems very interesting to see a game like this last so long. But the one question i am very curious about is how CSGO has lasted so long for many years. My thoughts seem to be its skin selection and market that makes it more competitive.
What do you guys think?
