Certain scripts (Mainly billy's scripts) don't work on local hosts and it will drive you electricity bill through the roof, you also need a private internet source just for the local host to run a server with 20+ people on it.
By Linux instance I mean I literally rent a virtual machine with two cores dedicated to me. With just two gigabytes of RAM I've noticed it's overkill for a 32-slot server with many scripts and plugins. The Linux vps is built with anti-ddos and thorough security meant to handle a lot more than a Source game server. When I test the server I run srcds locally and connect to it with the Garry's mod client, no script can tell the difference between that and a dedicated host, since srcds is literally the server software every host must use to authenticate with Steam.

In the last thirty days my server itself, Bove's Prophunt, used up 29.4 GB of bandwidth. Most of my addons are automatically downloaded through Steam workshop, however, voice traffic always goes through the server. The web server hosting the music for the loading screens seems to average 500mb-1gb per day which is very dependent on traffic. Edit: Here's some statistics on how much traffic my server has been getting
