League of Legends is a PvP focused game, where you and your team need to destroy the enemy "nexus" to win.

There's a lot of different "champions" and items, that will make almost every game you play, unique.
In the beginning, you don't have to worry about what champion you play, or what items you buy. Practicing "farming" (last hitting minions), and not walking under the enemy tower is the most important thing to learn when you're new to the game. With farming, you can get gold to buy items in the shop, and level's to upgrade/unlock new skills. You can have 6 items at once, and the maximum level you can reach in a game is 18.
You have to destroy enemy turrets and inhibitors to get to the nexus, and once you destroy that, GG you win.

There are also other objectives on the map, like 5 different type of dragons (They give you different buffs), scuttle crabs (They give you a little bit of vision on your minimap.), Red Brambleback (Gives you a buff that increases health regen, and a slow/damage over time effect when you hit enemies with auto attacks.) Blue Sentinel, (Gives you extra mana regen, and cooldown reduction for your spells.), Rift Herald (when you kill it, it drops its eye. And when you pick it up, it gives you an Empowered Recall until you use it, or goes away. When you use it, it tries to help you destroy the enemy tower/base.), Baron Nashor. (gives bonus attack damage, bonus ability power, Empowered Recall, and an aura that greatly increases the power of nearby minions.)

You'll have to try the game out to really get a feel for it. There's just too much to explain.
Read the spells, and items carefully, by hovering your mouse over them.

After you finish a game, you get to honor the teammate you loved playing with the most.
Don't worry about people talking trash, it's how a lot of people in the community act. If you can't stand those people, you can always mute them, or report them after the game.

I hope this helped you understand the game a bit better! If you decide to play it, I wish you a lot of good luck, and fun! Smile
