If someone who is armed breaks into your home and tries to murder your family, you have the god given right to protect yourself and those around you. It may never happen in your life but it's better to have a firearm and not need it, than to not have a firearm and need it. Simple as that.
Or you can be unarmed, call 911 and wait like 10 minutes for the police to show up.
Logically, If you make firearms illegal, you make it to where bad guys get guns illegally, and good guys can't arm themselves.
To carry a gun is illegal in most of the countries in the world. Most of the countries in the world are safer than the US.
I won't simply link the freedom to carry guns with violence (In Switzerland and Canada, two very safe countries, you can get guns although it's complicated compared to the US). But what strikes me is how much US citizens feel unsafe and defiant over their government. You have the stigmatas of a third world country.
