As for improvements, if no_draw isn't applied to faces of walls and floors that are not visible to the player, you should add the no_draw texture to further increase map optimisation.
Pretty solid idea actually, almost like a skybox then have trigger areas with images of where on the map it'll take you. I do like that actually.
