What if I have an award, I like it and all, fits my postbit.

Change my avatar, and it doesn't fit anymore, and looks ugly.

I simply hide it, no harm done.

Exactly my reasoning. Or maybe you have one too many awards and one is alone and it looks bad and you want to hide it or move them around.
