And answering your question, I'm using GhostVPN for security reasons and minecraft works fine for me, never had issues with that. Other thing about VPN is that it redirects you through their servers which means nothing you connecting to can see your real IP adress, you can say it "changes" you IP adress for a period of time, and so you should be able to play any server even though your original IP adress was banned there.
