The Walking Dead - Season 9?

Sorry for necroposting but I'm a big fan of TWD and just thought I'd throw my two pennies in here.
Loved seasons 1-8 except season 2 - screw that farm.
Season 9 so far is very promising. I love the time skips, and recently it has been confirmed that Rick Grimes isnt actually dead or gone for good; he'll star in a series of The Walking Dead movies as protagonist.
So while Season 9 is good and promising and I think Judith will be one of the protagonists now, what is way more interesting is what these movies will bring. Not regarding Rick Grimes that much even.
We know that there will be another TWD spin-off series set either in Canada, northern Europe or Sibiria. We know that it will have snow and ice as main elements and people surviving the zombie apocalypse under those conditions.
Now the question is: Will the TWD Movies with Rick Grimes basically be a Backdoor Pilot for that new series? Will Rick Grimes end up in the North with snow and all that? Or will they simply conclude his story arc and have nothing todo with the new series.
