There's no such thing as "surround sound speakers" -- there is a surround system setup, but it really is just a different arrangement of speakers, using most likely a receiver that will support at least 5.1 or more. Usually they are at least 7.1 now, but the higher end support Dolby Atmos. Either way, there's no music that I've ever heard that is recorded/encoded in surround anyways because most people listen to plain music on a 2ch stereo setup and movies on a surround setup lol. If you can hear music through all the speakers coming from your ipod or something then you are listening to music in multi-channel stereo mode most likely, which is basically mono but through all audio channels.
