Hello NulledBB,

Today I am going to show you how to turn a default MyBB feature into a useful automatic tool to make your life easier. This tutorial mainly focuses on how toautomaticallyremove links that directs users to adult content content. Most hosting services strictlyforbids anything that displayspornographicor obscene content. It is important, toimplementsomeadditionalsecurity to protect minors and your hosting account from being terminated.Alright, make sure you are already on your Admin Panel on your website to begin this tutorial.

Step 1
You should already be on your Admin Panel, and now you can go to yourconfigurationtab next to "home". If you are lost you may edit this link to match your forum ([CHANGE].[CHANGE]/admin/index.php?module=config). Once you have arrived, go to word filterswhich is the fourth link under settings.

Step 2
You page you are viewing should look like this:

For the word option, add a link you want to automatically remove when a user submits it through your forum. For example, we should use google.com(change the google domain to the site that is not allowed on your servers). Next, you should add the replacement to [Link Removed]. Now you are ready to test the link on your forums!

Step 3
Test out your desired link, either it is a site that directs you to porn or you just do not want the link posted for any reason. The following gif is the link I was using as an example. Please try not to remove google because they love everyone besides apple users (no hard feelings lol).

Your finished product should display [Link Removed] like the above image once the thread was posted.

Tips!
  • People for some strange reason enjoy messing around with communities. I highly recommend you limit newly created accounts the ability to post images. This features gives webmasters the ability toautomaticallyremove image links, but they can easily be regenerated and posted again.
  • This does notsubstitutemoderation! Active moderation is always recommended for active forums. There are many linkgenerators out there. You should focus on listing the main links for your personal protection.
  • You and your staff should research some common sites to add to the word filters. Try to live and learn with experience, and add submitted links that areprohibited to the list.
  • You never know when your hosting provider visits your website to check all the content you and your community members posted. Remember, you are solelyresponsible for all content and your host has the right toterminateyouraccount. Better to be safe than sorry!
I hope you find this tutorial useful and helps you use other features of MyBB with creativity. This will come in handy and build at least 25% extrasecuritythat you never had before. Do not limit this with just words or links combine both to make your pages clean and protected. If your hosting provider allows such content, you still want to use common sense if it is suitable for minors or people at work to view any links or content.

Proud MyBB User,
Robert
