It has its ups and downs, but largely Boruto has been more boring than Naruto. Boruto as a character I think is actually better than Naruto if you compare him to the young Naruto. They've made him smarter and more skilled, and less of a jerk (he was more of a jerk at the start of the show, but he has some character development). The trouble is that they're in a time of peace, so not much is at stake. You also rarely get to see the old characters in their full glory. The movie as well as the episodes that re-do the movie plot are still one of the best parts of the show, because you get to see Naruto and Sasuke fighting at their full power. You rarely get to see them do much throughout the show otherwise. There also seems to be a lot of filler and generally things are moving slowly. I have high hopes that things are about to get serious again. There's a new group of antagonists they've been teasing that are very similar to the Akatsuki, so it could be building up to another large-scale war of sorts. I'm hoping for some more tragedy. The current OP for the show actually shows Boruto and the gang fighting these guys, and it looks like Konoha is destroyed and things have gotten really serious, but so far the actual episodes are nowhere near this stuff happening. Maybe in the next 10 episodes or so if we're lucky, this will start to get serious.

Boruto (the show) has a lot of potential because the universe and its mechanics are well-established. One thing that I often mention to people is that in part 1 of Naruto they hadn't even really talked about chakra natures yet, they were kinda explained properly in Shippuuden when Naruto came up with the Rasenshuriken that he infused with wind chakra. Now in Boruto it seems like every kid has special jutsu and is able to take advantage of their chakra nature. It's basically like they're the age of part 1 of Naruto but with the powers people had in Shippuuden. This means whenever things do get serious, the fights could be pretty cool, and it might not take as long for them to learn even more interesting jutsu.

Boruto also can only make a few shadow clones unlike Naruto, so his fighting style is totally different. These little differences keep things interesting. I think it's worth picking up if you already watched Naruto and Naruto Shippuuden. It will probably get serious eventually and then you'll want to be caught up.
