They actually change the UE source code in order to optimize and improve some of the parts of the engine itself and to make it as lightweight as possible on both CPU and RAM. I've been playing very well with an old, temperature-damaged CPU - a part from some non critical sounds (e.g. the start match voicelines) not playing in time.
