His parents obviously didn't pay anywhere near enough attention to him in the first place. :(
I really didn't want to feed this necrobump, but I feel like I want to contribute to the conversation because I know someone who almost did this once. His parents almost did the same thing but I knew he might do something drastic, so I ended up talking to the parents and he ended up getting a job after that to kill his addiction.
