Stop calling it a "high one-time fee" because it's not. Compare it to other sites, and we still have one of the lowest. A monthly fee wouldn't work on a site like ours, just because it works for a certain business platform doesn't mean it works for all. In the end, upgrading isn't mandatory but a way to help us keep the site alive and improving.

It is a "high one-time fee" for a few perks on a site. I'd also argue that if a Norwegian can call something pricey, it tends to be rather accurate considering the stupidly high prices in Norway. That is besides the point though. Over the course of 5-6 years of jumping between forums, the highest cost I've seen to-date on an upgrade is 30 US dollars. Now considering the fact that Divine costs a total of 67 US dollars across three payments, then it is indeed a "high fee" to pay. Divine should be able to justify spending those roughly 70 US dollars through it's perks.

Now it doesn't even come remotely close to doing that. Then the only argument you seem to be able to make is that it "allows people to support us". Which is a fine argument, but it is idiotic to use when trying to defend "Divine" or any of the upgrade tiers over "Supreme". Why is that? Because the amount of people who are willing to pay about 70 US dollars to change the color of their username isn't exactly high and people aren't exactly know for being happy about spending a decent sum of money all at once.

That is why people who need support from others, be them websites or content creators, do so with a "pay what you want" format. People are more likely to spend say 5 dollars a month over the course of 12 months rather than spending 30 dollars all at once. This exact reason is why Patreon managed to become so popular, and it's idea is the exact reason why things like Kickstarter works as well. The "pay what you want/can" format. Big one time fees are an impatient way of trying to earn money and it usually nest you with less amounts later down the line.

Sure you get more money the first month, but have less at the end of the year. So the argument that "it is to support us better" isn't a good one because the main objective of that idea is to earn the most amount of money for the longest period of time. Not the "most amount of money this month and we'll starve next month" kind of thinking.

Also Subway did a 20% price hike, I guess we can see how that'll turn out and how it won't survive.

It did an increase of 20% over the course of 2 years or so. Small growths aren't a "bad" thing, spontaneous and big ones are. Oh yeah, and I also noted that if a service is "addictive" in some way, a price increase (a sudden one) can and most likely work. Subway is addicting for people, as is most fast foods. I also specified 30% increase and not 20% because I wasn't aiming that statement at the cost of heating your food, but the entire menu.

Supreme is what the leechboios are after since it lets you unlock stuff without spending credits. Divine is for people who basically wanna support the cause of the site and get some neat-o perks in return (like name color changer).

Also the annual fee argument, if nbb had this, a leecher would pay like 10 bucks for one month of supreme, download literally everything and then fuck off.

You really think I was expecting the current (and bad) systems of the upgrade system would function in a subscription focused system? Of course changes would have to be made. That is a no-brainer. You'd do changes like changing "Content Unlocks per day" to "per month" and up the cap number. As it stands now, Supreme can unlock 90 things over the course of a 30 days period. Say you limit it to something like 30 unlocks a month. Next gains 60 unlocks, the final tier gets 100 unlocks. (Example.) As for the perks themselves, I can't even argue (and I can argue about almost anything) that "changing my username color" is worth almost 70 dollars.

I pay less to change my hair color, something I do frequently. Heck, I pay less when I buy new games on release. Actually, there are a lot of things to spend money on that actually has value. Divine is almost worth 20 US dollars and most of that comes from the ability to unlock content without credits and the ability to unlock stuff in general. Hence the only part about Divine that is worth something is the "service" part, the "content" part. Everything else is a "neat" thing, but is nowhere near worth the money. The only other reason I could see someone do it is because they have enough money (of course) and a kind (or stupid) heart and want to share money. Though as it is proven pretty much every single day now, giving people the option to pay in a a more "stretchy" way in terms of amounts is usually better.

It usually gives the "seller" more money in the end, and the "consumer" a better feeling.
