Black Ops 1 was my first COD to play and I cant get rid of those memories. Games have to at least sound progressive and try new things I know. The issue is I will not buy a new Call of Duty if I don't like it. Even WW2 which was a "Boots on the Ground" game I didn't bother. Why do this when you can just rework WAW? I mean if you do it with COD4 then why not this classic game. They aren't dealing with kids who have played WAW, they are dealing with the new generation of COD players. Most of them wouldn't or have not been exposed to the old games. Maybe add more content for WAW? Like how GTA 4 and BF1 showed you different parts/chapters of lives. Maybe a Wehrmacht storyline and the original? Separate the Red Army into another one? So many options that COD has not taken that would be great! Maybe do the same thing, just focus on the Korean or Vietnam war. BO1 was still in that era, but a whole new story can be written just at this time. I think half of the appeal to the old COD was the history you were involved in. Like Assassins Creed, sure it isn't 100% accurate, but its fun to play and be a part of it. I know I learned a good amount from Assassins Creed and BO1 for the matter of being immersed. With all the games being pushed out, this wouldn't be bad to jump into for a year.
