i use coinbase and bitfinex to trade and as my wallet...but i have a ledger aswell, i think thats the safest way..

Cold wallet is definitely the safest route. Something that no one else can access. I personally just use exchanges now, since I don't have too much invested.

Im pretty sure Coinbase is a decent wallet host you should try it

i find bitfinex for just trading the coins the best wallet you can try it if you want
