Look at it this way - you can not just throw out your combo you have to react to the enemy movement to hit anything while champion like Riven just need to remember the combo an do it. That makes the champion hard for bad players therefore he can not be very good at low ranks. Higher than Gold and Plat afterwards is all up to the numbers.
