Advice Needed Foreign Language

Hey all,

So I'll be going off to college shortly and before this all begins I just wanted to know..

How in the world can one learn a foreign language (specifically Spanish) while speaking English for the entirety of their life?

**Any online classes/practice/study sites or books would be much recommended.**

Honestly a great question. I have been taking a few French classes but stopped. Duo lingo is an amazing app. I learned 10 - 20 words within a few days. I eventually stopped because I was busy.

I'm Spanish and I'm learning english since I was young haha

Just take a online class or download one of the language apps on the app store

I am from China. I have been failing my English since middle school. Emmmm, can't give any good advice.

I heard of duolingo, I may just want to take French altogether, but like the majority of my friends and community around me are taking Spanish. So i'm a bit under pressure. However, thank you of recommending duolingo. The website in my review has a pretty good interface that's friendly. My concern is actually retaining the information.

Oh so I know where to go to if I need help studying. No but in all seriousness, how has English been for you? I want to get to know how objectively difficult it is to learn a language you do not use on a day-to-day basis. But you may know more English than you do Spanish because you're speaking in it right now.

I'm really hoping for it to be this simple. I'm not so sure if an online class is supposed to help all that much but I'll be certainly trying a lot of them out. I was just posting this thread to get specific recommendations. I can obviously search some up but I wanted to know what you have used in the past/what apps you have experienced with and what to try and what to avoid.

Your English is pretty good. I'm not sure what areas of English you're failing in? Is it the class itself that you're not motivated in or is it more of a 'I genuinely do not know this language'? For me, I've taken Chinese (Mandarin) before and I was just not motivated nor did I absorb any information.

I took french and spanish when I was in high school. I took more french classes than spanish, but know and retained spanish more than I do french mostly because I had a job where I was surrounded by others who spoke it. Immersion helps A LOT. If you're able to take a job, even part time or something, scope out the place first and see what the others speak. If you're able to be around and practice the language (even if you think you sound dumb at first), the practice will help you get better.

I use duolingo, i think that is the best app for language learning

I used duoling to learn Spanish, the results were not good.. not because of duolingo.. just because I'm a lazy (redacted)
