I've used HP Pavilion from early 2000', Acer Aspire One, Sony Vaio from 2014 and HP laptop I'm currently using which costed around 800. They've all served me well, but compared to a Mac Book Air I have had for few hours they are all like child toys.

I've been through lenovos, samsungs, and now I'm onto the metabox. It really depends what your needs are. I have 32gb on my laptop right now. I think the best investment for moderate use is a samsung s7+

Lenovo has the best build quality, especially the business laptops like thinkpad T/X. Dell is also good as well.

I like Lenovo laptops, but the screen is very bad in cheap models.

I used to have Vaio which was great, but the HD failed just recently so shopping for a new one. Not impressed by the options, but I've seen a couple of HP's that seem ok. Didn't buy anything yet.
