I like asus computers, they seem very robust and I have been using them for over 10 years

I recently purchased an Acer Aspire 5, 17 inches

for me it was around $700 CAD on a sale used via Best Buy, usually $900 or more I believe

I'd definitely give it a looksie, you get exactly what you pay for
Meow, it's purr-sonal!

Well this is paradox, because from its very hard to answer it, i myself got 3 laptops, gf got 1, father another, so in a total we have Asus, Toshiba, HP, Lenovo and Dell, its really hard for me to choose which brand is better for sure, but i can say one thing, if you like big convenient keyboard buttons you will definitely gonna need Asus, if you not care about button size i would definitely recommend dell. All my laptops working pretty well as i am managing and monitoring them all and i even fixed them few times, i had issue with lenovo power on button, definitely never gonna buy that one, the power on/off button on lenovo y series breaks in 1 month and you will have to unmount it all to re-solder new button. Toshiba = has issues with power jack, it breaked multiple times, oh and the screen sleep button is also broken, so when i fold laptop it still stays on, but thats not an issue for me, as i turn the screen off programmatically. So asus - well its kinda interesting beast, it has some weird issues software issues, for example if your HDD is full and your laptop goes to sleep mode for 1 day, when u turn it back on screen will not turn on. Solution = take off 1 memory slot and battery, try booting it, when it boots up free your hard drive. Dell - well this one is the most youngest brother laptop which never bring any issues so far i have it more than 1 year but i enjoy it, its fast its reliable and its sexy, buttons are crispy though for my fingers. HP - usb connectors breaking always, so i re-solder them back few times, but thats it, never had any other issues with it. So yeah, i would definitely order them following:
1. Dell
2. HP
3. ASUS
4. Lenovo (would not include in this list at all, its garbage)

Depends on if you are planning on gaming on it. If not i would go with the thinkpad, the battery life is amazing. If you know how to set up linux the battery life is even better. Plus some of the thinkpads have i7 cpu which are good for most applications other than gaming that is. You might be able to play league. Most gaming laptops always need to be plugged in which kinda kills the aspect of it being a laptop.
