Apparently, Activision and Infinity Ward are internally very pleased with how the next Call of Duty is shaping up.

Speaking during a financial call this week with investors, Activision noted that Infinity Ward is creating "what the team believes is one of the best Call of Duty's ever built."

Activision also pitched the title as a great step forward for the franchise that will deliver what fans have come to love about the series over the years.

Now, I know what you're thinking: in a room full of investors, it's the job of Activision to say this type of stuff and hype up its products, which is partially true, though this seems overly hyperbolic if the case, even for a financial report to investors.

You may also point out that Infinity Ward is never going to be anything but excited for the game their making: that kind of comes along with the job of making a game. And this is true, but again, I don't think either party needs to hype up Call of Duty to investors. Everyone knows at this point the series produces the best-selling games each year. However, maybe with the explosion of Apex Legends and the ever-present Fortnite, Activision was a little extra in its praise of the upcoming Call of Duty. This is a fair point.

That said, whatever the case, it's exciting news, especially paired with the news that it will indeed have a campaign and other new types of modes for the series. And this is good. Infinity Ward is traditionally viewed as the weakest link in the three-team system -- which also includes Treyarch and Sledgehammer -- that make Call of Duty games. In other words, their entries could use all of the excitement they can get.

Of course, we won't have to wait long to see if the product is as good as Activision is hyping it up to be. Call of Duty games are typically revealed in the Spring, and we're already halfway through February.

Please read the award requirements here before applying for them.

I'm not looking forward to the next Call of Duty, considering my negative opinion on the most recent entries of the franchise. To me, Activision saying that doesn't really mean anything. If anything it serves as a way to boost the game's sales, especially during the pre-order phase. How, you might ask, well many people, and myself included, got turned off by BO4, so hyping up the game seems logical.

It's not as overly hyperbolic as you are saying. If nothing is done to hype up the game, its sales are going to suffer due to BO4. Why do you think they decided to say this on a financial call with investors? Because they knew this information would pass on to the public, and it wouldn't seem as desperate as making a public statement directly.

This doesn't seem like a necessarily good thing. It was almost the same thing with Blackout. They jumped into the trend bandwagon and considered it as the will of the player base.
To be honest, what I think they mean is that they are perhaps going to put more effort into the campaign side of things. Needless to say, this comes with its own implications, mainly online play not being a gratifying experience.

In sum, they are doing all this to increase the expectation for the future game which translates into more sales.

Anyways, these are my thoughts on the matter and good job writing this post.

While this does sound "Cool", I'm not excited. Call of duty has repeatedlyshown that they're no longer in it for the fans but in it for the money. I do not trustActivision with what they say anymore, as they have repeatedlybroken that trust. Activision is taking down companies with them, from blizzard and their games and to destinythey are not in it for the fans. But who knows, maybe this year they do step up and make something great. We will just have to wait and see.
