Currently they are things like:
Code:
:o

Which really f*cks up things in a post: https://nulledbb.com/Thread-C-Character-...-Iterators

I get a bunch of smilies in my post when I don't want them -- I'm only trying to explain things about objects within various headers and the std namespace but it's annoying to read after the post is in the displayed on the page.

Many MyBB administrators change them to things less commonly used for this reason. i.e.
Code:
:smile:

It should be fixed IMHO.

std::ostreambuf_iterator

->
Code:
std::ostreambuf_iterator

There's an option you can check while you post something that disables emoticons.

I think there is something you can tick when posting a thread, at least I think so.

Try making a new thread and look at the bottom; there's normally like 3-4 tick boxes... See what they say Smile

If nothing there, maybe suggest it as an addition to the NulledBB 3.0 Theme!

Thanks and have a good day ^^.

And what if I still want them in *intentional* parts of my post? This doesn't solve the problem.

The only problem with this is that the smilies are NOT based on a specific MyBB theme, it's a global set of icons for all themes. Point is you would be suggesting me to wait for the new theme for something that is going to be a global change anyways.

These suggestions don't solve the problem really. Additionally, even if I IMG tag emoticons in my post, now if a new image replaces an old image for a smiley with a new filename the image is broken. Tags associated with smilies are not affected by this because they are linked to an image path and parsed at page load.

Look at the majority of other MyBB forums and see what the replacement text is for smilies. They are probably more often than not, *unique*, and there's a reason for that; so that a member can decide where and when they want smilies in their post without it being an all or nothing option.

The checkbox is a bandaid fix.

That Grave Bump though.

But OP: Why not just link to a pastebin if it's that annoying.

Because that is just as inconvenient, additionally, what is the point in having code tags on a forum if they aren't used? The whole point is to have content hosted on this database, not some other site IMO.

And what if I have a thread explaining certain snippets of code? Pastebin link per line/snippet/class of code that I'm explaining? And if I put it all into one pastebin that defeats the point of the separation so that it's easier for a reader to follow along.

As I said before -- there's absolutely no excuse for why this can't be fixed on the forum. It takes 2 minutes at most; I've seen the ACP many times for MyBB and hosted forums of my own in the past.
