Denied Character count

It would be nice to have a character count on post seeing as you have the 50 character min per post.

without an actual counter, users may be more enticed to give an actual reply

That is a good point.

I think its a good idea but then I agree with others about writing more in a reply.

Maybe there could be a in between for both? Trying to think of something specifically As I can see both sides of that.

Not really needed as would cause users to make a worthless post to reach the limit as opposed to a decently thought out post.
If you don't meet the minimum character limit you get an error anyways, so on this bases, I'll deny this suggestion as not needed.
