buy a new phone. changing battery costs like half of a new phone, and since phone gets slow after 2 years, i rather change the whole phone after 2-4 years

New phone, everythime. I used to try and be frugal but on iPhones, replacing the battery is a project in itself.

Depends on the phone. If its some Samsung/Apple flagman then maybe you could consider to replace battery. But still it's quite costly, the phone itself is old, you just don't want to invest in it. Because it can get other problems, not just battery. I replaced a battery in one phone, but after some time the motherboard died and it was it for that phone.
