fabric will definitely be cooler in the future, but at the moment it's rather bad because it doesn't support that much

Fabric with Optifine, has all the mods I would want to use, I keep it pretty much vanilla with just some helpful mods like fullscreen windowed mode and big xp orbs

Fabric will be used more in the future and Forge is supossed to stay in the back.

Totally Forge, more powerful than Fabric, less lag etc
Better for bigger projects

I personally like forge more. It is easier for me to add mods and download created mod packs. It just feel a lot easier to use for me

For me, It comes down to preference.
For vanilla play, I prefer fabric. There's an absurd amount of active devs that bring many cool quality of life features and some mods are even immune to update degradation.
The problem is that there's barely any big content mods and you lose access to things like Tinkers Construct and that is a deal breaker to me, making Forge the ideal choice for big modding.

However, since there's two different mod loaders, there comes the issue were a lot of people cross request ports to each platform in which a lot of mod devs say that they absolutely despise.

Forge is probably the longest running self-sustaining.

In my opiniom it has to be fabric, even though it has a small modding community, it is more stable and faster than Forge, it also has better performance than Forge. Whilst forge has a bigger modding community than Fabric, I believe more high quality mods are on Fabric.
