Hey All,

Pretty new here, Kind of want to just start a discussion to earn some validity on here.

Don'tknow the technicalterm, but I used to be a real 'Genre Snob' and listen to nothing but Metal, Hardcore, Punk etc and shit on anyone of my mates that listened to hip hop or EDMor whatever...

Now I'm a little older, I've played music in hardcore bands and blues bands, managed nightclubs that play nothing but trap and hip-hop and now earn a living online during the day and DJing at night. So ive got a very wide range of music i listen to and enjoy...

Looking back I think it was super ignorant to refuse to enjoy music that wasntmetal etc. Maybe its an age thing or maybe its just the environments I've been exposed to that have broadened my musical horizons.

What are your thoughts on this? How many of you are single genre purists or like me and listen to everything from BB King to Schoolboy Q?

I wouldn't consider myself a single genre purists but I am a purists nonetheless.
I would distance myself from any "pop" sounding songs/albums and instead dive deep in the experimental/lo-fi path.
I don't (really) discriminate by genre, since of all the diversity in music I like.
But I would definitely say that this is a bi-product of my personality type and the environment I was in.

I guess it has something to do with age.
When i was younger and started learning to play the guitar i was also a ''genre snob''. I also only listened to metal back then.
But after i got better at the instrument, and got older, my horizons have severely gotten bigger.

I got very into jazz, and fusion over the last couple of years. And i think it's awesome how many elements from other genres you can recognise in the fusion genre. Definately worth a listen if you're not already past that :Smile
Some artist suggestions:
Guthrie Govan
Tom Quayle
And Alan Holdsworth(RIP... He was a very innovative musician focusing a lot on use of chromatic notes with a wide but controlled range of weird sounds and awesome guitar tricks) Smile
Stay tech!
