As title reads I very unexpecedly got shit canned today and have one month left of work, not in panic. It'll sort it self out but if anyone with at least a little life experince can chime in on the followingquetsion;

After 10 years or so, any recommendations on how to move into a new field of work?

I've been doing digital marketing (mostly marketing automation stuff) for so long now that it feels like the only thing that will pay enough and that is easily available.

Would really like to work with something more visually creative, maybe i'll just start my own business tomorrow morning...

Oh man! That sucks ass! Hope you can pick yourself back up and get on with life. I'm a games programmer. Why don't you see if you can get into games? There's lots of arty related roles in games. Concept art, 3d modelling, animation, VFX. You might find your experience in digital marketing can bring some fresh perspective to the art department of a games company.

Don't have experience on my own on the specific subject.
However, the most appropriate approach in this issue is to try and find something that's as close to your degree/knowledge as it can.
You are probably not that mentally prepared to do the 180 degree turn.

Starting a business is a pain, but hey, if ya got it in ya, it's gonna be hard with the paperwork but you will enjoy it more later on.

Oh, had forgotten about this thread. Thanks for all the kind words!! I'm in a better mood today than then, still no job but got two more salaries incoming and paid vacation days they'll have to pay out etc.

I do have some leads now which i will follow up on, pretty confident i'll get a job in the same area of expertise even if i rather do something else. Being able to pay for my apartment, food and so on is quite important Wink

Get on your feet and then start something on the side. Just don't settle into something if you're unhappy. You can do it!
