How do i go about getting people on a gmod server?

Been hosting it for about a week and still no luck without the odd person joining. Anyone know how to get others to join?

What gamemode are you running? What makes your server unique? There are a lot of servers in Garry's Mod, and since it's been out for so long, most people already belong to some of the larger communites. This means you have to make your server standout and get people to play your server over their current favorite.

It's really hard to get new players on your server. IF your server is pretty good you will get players after some time ...

Try making your server standout in some way like adding custom jobs addons etc

Add a lot of fun things on your server, like jobs, pm, guns... And spread your servers to your friends

I used to have a server back in the day that was running a NutScript schema I made. Because the genre of the schema was something I have never seen before on GMod(won't go in details because I might re-make it one day), I had no trouble filling up the slots. At first I told a few friends about it but people soon became curious and started joining, even managed to get a decent loyal playerbase in less than two weeks.

Remember that nobody wants to join an empty server - you might get the one or two odd players but they won't stick if there isn't a playerbase, funnily enough. You'll need to have concurrent players, and the best way to do so is to get your friends to join and play on your server. This goes for any gamemode as an empty server = a dead server! If you have a bunch of friends on, people will see that the server has players on it and will join, and from there you can establish a proper playerbase.

Making your server stand out is the most important thing.
If your server is really great and got a lot to it, then go ahead and advertise it online. If people find it great, you will eventually get players on a daily basis.
