How do you go about learning a new programming language

I myself know quite a few languages since I started programming about 6 years ago, I'm simply curious as to what people tend to do when they go in to learn a new language, I usually go straight for the mathematical manipulations, variables and so on before I go for anything big and complicated, anyone do anything different <3

I start to read and i pass everything i already know since a lot of language have the same things coming again and again but every language have some difference too so i keep looking for the difference between language type

yeah often programming languages have the same base things like if else and so on you don't really have to "learn" a new language, if you already know a language
