Welcome to Garry's Mod!
Hello and welcome to the massive Garry's mod community! (Also known as Gmod!)

So seeing as you're reading this, you're probably wonder, "What the heck now?"
Not to worry, this guide will show you all of the ins and outs of this amazing game!

First things first!
Now that you have purchased this game, you will need to add in the essentials to prevent errors such as:

OR

And enjoy the game for what it really is.

So the very first thing you should do is go onto the main menu and click on the small controller at the bottom of the screen:

This menu allows you to add textures (such as CSS) to Gmod and prevents most errors on servers.

Simply check any boxes that are open to allow Gmods to use the textures from the games.

If you didn't purchase Gmod with CSS and/or any other Valve games, don't worry!
Here is a simple website that allows you to download any missing textures: c sc he ater.era.ee (Remove spaces)[For a tut on how to install the textures:

OUTDATED - Please check my UPDATED (2020) tutorial here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZ9sV29YlQM Come and join us! Discord: [disallowed website] Live at: http://www.twitch.tv/areshiyo ...
(Not my video)]

The only downside to downloading from that site is the files are massive and split into 2 downloads, so in my opinion just get the Valve complete pack: http://store.steampowered.com/sub/29197/
Or just CSS: .
Optimal Graphics Settings (Skip if you already have a beefy computer)
For those of you like me who run on a graphics card worth a grain of salt, here are some tips to get the best experience...

First you will want to know your current FPS. (Frames per second) To do this, simply start up a new game on single player. Once you're in, type this into the console (Press the ~ key by ESC):
cl_showfps 1

(If the console doesn't work, press ESC, go to Options, Keyboard, Advanced, and tick off "Enable developer console.")

If your FPS text remains green, (The fps rapidly changes unless you have "Wait Vertical Sync" enabled which I will get into later) the you should already be good to go.

But if the text is yellow/red, then here are some tips to get the best out of your game.

1: Be sure to set your quality settings just below the recomended.

2: If your fps is really bad, then lower your game resolution. (This helps reduce the amount of rendering on screen, but it makes the visual quality look grainy and weird)

3. For any computer that has a problem with constant and random frame loss, turn on V-Sync.

This keeps the frame rate at a steady 30fps, or 60fps. If your computer has a random spazz attack and the FPS stays red, then turn it off because your computer can't handle V-sync.

Se sure to leave the filter and anti-aliasing the way it is; any change will just decrease fps.
Getting started
Now that you have your textures installed or "ticked" and your fps is green across the board, its time to get into your first server!
There are many different GAMEMODES to choose from on Gmods, most of which are fun and exciting. To start off, you will need to download some of the gamemodes onto your Gmods.
Heres a list of gamemodes you are likely to play/try:
Trouble in Terrorist Town : (Already installed on gmod)
Prop Hunt :

PropHunt (Hide'n'Seek) - Original
?? Garry's Mod
: Kowalski7cc
PROP HUNT IS BACK!!!! Contribute at GitHub: https://github.com/kowalski7cc/prophunt-...k-original READ THE F.A.Q. AND DISCUSSIONS BEFORE POSTING!!!!

Murder :

Murder
?? Garry's Mod
: Mechanical Mind
A gamemode of deception and murder, based off of Murder in the Dark. One person is a murderer with a knife, who is trying to secretly kill off the other players.

Click and "Subscribe"(Download) these links because there are many copies of these gamemodes that can mess up your garry's mod and these are the OFFICIAL links.

To get other gamemodes, simply click on the blue box next to the game of the gamemode to install.

When you join it should automatically install any "addons" you need to play. If any errors show up,(which they shouldn't) then there are some addons that weren't downloaded and just ask an admin for a list of there addons.

For instructions on how to play games, look up "How to play (Gamemode name)"
