How to delete everything outside of an area I selected?

This is probably the reason youcameto the post. Ultimately, this is a fairly easy thing to do if you have just seen it once.
First off, you will have to select theareayou don't want to be deleted, like here:

After that, you want to eitherright clickon your screen>select inverseor head over toselect>inverseor use the keybinding:ctrl+shift+i

Now the outside of the selection is selected. Make sure you have all layers of which you want areas to be deleted selected. Then go ahead and pressdeleteto remove everything outside of the selection inAdobe Photoshop!
