smoking seems terrible to your body and wallet so I ask, why do you do it, is it because of the nicotine?

MJ/devilslettuce/420 doesnt have natural nicotine in it. You also don't have to smoke it. A lot of people do edibles or tinctures to get the same affects as smoking it. Inhaling anything that isnt normal air isnt going to be good for you, but everyone has their reasons.

Maybe... you know that it affects you, you know it may kill you in the long term, but there are situations that overwhelm u so much and you dont have any other way to control that. A cigarette may be the answer for few minutes, it distracts you of your situation and makes u feel good
