Is Souslike an actual genre?

Recently more and more games are being advertised as "Souslike" and I wonder if that's actually a genre or something people made up to call games that remind them of games by FromSoftware

"Souls-like" is just dark souls type games. Might as well be a sub-genre of rpg games
